Vineyard: Supporting the Delivery of the First Utility-Scale Offshore Wind Farm in the US

Atlas NextWave played a vital role in supporting the successful delivery of South Fork Wind - the United States’ first commercial-scale offshore wind farm. A joint venture between Ørsted and Eversource, the 12-turbine, 132 MW development now powers approximately 70,000 homes across Long Island. Through a mix of technical project personnel, union labour, and offshore construction management support, Atlas NextWave contributed to a milestone achievement for clean energy in North America.

The Challenge: Providing Skilled Personnel Across Multiple Phases and Contractors

As the first project of its kind at this scale in the United States, Vineyard Wind 1 required tailored staffing solutions that could meet the varying demands of consenting, engineering, and complex offshore installation activities. Atlas NextWave delivered flexible and high-quality workforce solutions across the full project lifecycle. From early development through to cable installation, we provided a broad range of project and site-based personnel, including:

  • White-Collar Project Personnel for consenting, permitting, and ongoing construction support, including Project Managers, Engineers, and Surveyors.
  • Supervisory Personnel and QHSE Managers to ensure operational readiness and compliance with offshore safety and quality standards.
  • Offshore Riggers, both union and non-union, for critical construction and installation activities.
  • Export Cable Installation Personnel for boulder placement services in 2022 and European crew mobilisation aboard the cable installation vessel.
  • Onshore and Offshore Personnel for the inter-array cable installation phase.
  • Electrical Union Labour supporting the testing and termination of inter-array cables.

Our broad service scope allowed us to respond to evolving project requirements while maintaining high safety, quality, and delivery standards across all scopes.
