    Job description

Vice President of Legal, NYC (Solar + Energy Storage)

    Location: NYC
    Position: Full-Time, Permanent

I'm partnering with a growing renewable energy company with an expanding presence in the U.S. market to appoint a Vice President of Legal.

This is an opportunity for an experienced legal professional to take ownership of the company's U.S. legal function, working closely with senior leadership and supporting the development, financing and execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects, particularly across solar and battery energy storage (BESS).

The position can be performed remotely for candidates based on the U.S. West Coast, with the opportunity to play a hands-on role across a broad range of project, transactional and corporate legal matters.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and provide legal support across utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar and battery storage developments, covering project development, M&A transactions, financing, construction and commercial agreements.
    • Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial and project-related agreements, including NDAs, LOIs, MSAs, vendor agreements, EPC contracts, PPAs and other key project documentation.
    • Support acquisitions and divestments of renewable energy projects, including legal due diligence, transaction structuring and negotiation of M&A documentation.
    • Advise on project financing arrangements, including construction loans and tax equity transactions, working alongside internal stakeholders and external legal counsel.
    • Oversee corporate legal matters, including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, business formations, employment matters, legal policies and the management of external counsel and paralegal support.

    Key Requirements

    • Juris Doctor (JD) from a U.S. law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. State Bar.
    • Approximately 7-10 years of post-qualification legal experience, with a strong background in renewable energy.
    • At least 5 years of experience within the renewable energy sector, ideally supporting utility-scale solar project development.
    • Strong experience across commercial contracts, project development, M&A transactions, project financing and corporate legal matters.
    • Exposure to battery energy storage (BESS) development, PPAs, tax equity and EPC agreements would be advantageous.
    • A commercially minded, hands-on legal professional comfortable operating autonomously, managing external counsel and advising business stakeholders in a fast-paced, growing organisation.

    The Opportunity
This is a senior, hands-on legal leadership position offering the opportunity to take ownership of the U.S. legal function and work directly with executive leadership. The role will suit someone who enjoys combining strategic legal oversight with practical, day-to-day involvement in renewable energy project development and business operations.
