About the Opportunity

• We are supporting a fast-growing European Battery Energy Storage (BESS) infrastructure platform in the search for a Financial Controller to join its expanding finance team.
• The company develops, owns, and operates utility-scale energy storage assets across multiple European markets, playing a key role in enabling grid stability, renewable integration, and the broader energy transition. With a rapidly growing project pipeline across Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium, the organisation is scaling its internal capabilities to support continued expansion.

The Role

• This is a project-focused Financial Controller position, operating at the intersection of project finance, construction controlling, lender reporting, and operational finance.
• Rather than a traditional corporate controlling role, this position is embedded within project delivery, supporting the full lifecycle of large-scale BESS infrastructure projects across Europe.
• The role is based in Madrid, with responsibility for supporting the German project portfolio and close collaboration with teams in Munich, Berlin, and Hamburg.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead financial controlling activities across utility-scale BESS projects
• Support end-to-end project financial management throughout development and construction phases
• Maintain and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking
• Track actual spend against approved investment cases and project budgets
• Manage financing drawdowns and coordinate with lenders and internal stakeholders
• Prepare regular financial reporting packages for banks, financing partners, and internal stakeholders
• Support audit processes and ensure compliance with financial governance requirements
• Act as a finance business partner to project and delivery teams across multiple jurisdictions
• Ensure accuracy and consistency of project financial data across active developments
• Contribute to improving financial processes and controls as the platform scales

Candidate Profile

• Approximately 3-7 years of experience in financial controlling or project controlling
• Strong background in renewables, energy, infrastructure, construction, or asset-heavy industries
• Experience with project finance, construction accounting, or lender reporting is highly desirable
• Strong analytical skills and hands-on approach to financial management
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, multi-project, international environments
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and project teams
• High level of ownership and attention to detail
