Home | Insights | Press Release | Atlas NextWave launches She Goes Offshore to create new pathways for women into offshore careers
Atlas NextWave has launched She Goes Offshore, a workforce initiative designed to connect more women with opportunities in the offshore energy industry and help employers access a broader talent pool. The initiative was developed in response to a workforce challenge in Mexico, where employers want to increase female participation offshore but the number of women with direct offshore experience remains limited.
Rather than focusing only on professionals who have already worked offshore, Atlas NextWave recognised that women with valuable transferable experience already exist across maritime and related industries. She Goes Offshore was created to help build a clearer route between that talent and offshore career opportunities. The first event was held in Veracruz, bringing together women interested in offshore careers with industry insight, practical information and a better understanding of what working offshore involves. Lourdes Landa Thierry, Business Director South America & Mexico at Atlas NextWave, said: “The challenge was not a lack of talented women. The challenge was creating a stronger connection between women with relevant skills and an offshore industry that has traditionally been difficult to access. She Goes Offshore is about helping to build that bridge.”
Atlas NextWave is taking a considered approach to how She Goes Offshore develops. Different markets create different opportunities and challenges, so the initiative will continue to evolve through feedback from women, input from clients and a clear focus on safeguarding, duty of care and the quality of the working environment. Alma Quintero, Business Manager Mexico at Atlas NextWave, said: “We want She Goes Offshore to create real opportunities, not simply awareness. That means listening to women, understanding the barriers they experience and working with employers that genuinely want to create the right environment for women to build successful offshore careers.” Following the launch in Mexico, the next She Goes Offshore activity is planned in Guyana, where Atlas NextWave will continue exploring how the concept can support both women and employers in another developing offshore market.
She Goes Offshore reflects Atlas NextWave’s approach to understanding the wider workforce challenge behind a recruitment requirement. In this case, the answer was not simply to search harder within the existing offshore talent pool, but to create a new route for women with relevant transferable skills to access the industry.
