24 aspiring offshore professionals take their first step in Aberdeen

Held at 3t Training Services in Dyce, the event brought together 24 candidates interested in taking their first steps towards an offshore career. For those attending, it was an opportunity to learn more about the realities of working offshore, the standards expected by employers and how Greenhands can help them prepare for their first assignment.

More than recruitment

Breaking into the offshore industry can be challenging. It goes beyond filling vacancies by developing the confidence, knowledge and professional behaviours candidates need to enter the industry safely and successfully. Participants are introduced to the importance of teamwork, communication and personal responsibility, alongside essential offshore safety principles such as risk and barrier awareness, process safety, Stop Work Authority, lifting operations, working at height, dropped-object prevention and hand-injury prevention.

Bringing offshore safety to life

The event took place at 3t’s training centre at Kirkhill Commercial Park in Dyce. The facility provides an environment in which the expectations of safety-critical industries become tangible. The centre has hosted practical programmes that expose the next generation to experiences such as fire training, smoke chamber drills, marine simulation, helicopter underwater escape training and lifeboat exercises. This makes it a fitting setting for candidates beginning to understand the realities and responsibilities of offshore work.
