Senior Commissioning Engineer - Battery Energy Storage
Project sites across the Netherlands | Occasional international travel
Bring battery storage projects to life.

    Job description

Take technical ownership of the final stage of advanced energy storage projects-turning installed systems into reliable, operational assets that help balance the grid and make better use of renewable energy.

We're partnering with an established energy technology company seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer. This is a hands-on role with autonomy, complex technical challenges, and the opportunity to guide colleagues while helping shape future system improvements.

    Your impact
You'll lead the technical commissioning process on-site, from electrical testing and system integration through troubleshooting and handover. Working closely with other technical disciplines, you'll ensure installations operate safely and perform as intended.
    Your responsibilities include:

    • Commissioning energy storage installations and verifying system integration.
    • Performing electrical measurements, tests, and inspections on low- and high-voltage components.
    • Diagnosing and resolving technical issues across electrical, control, and software systems.
    • Carrying out maintenance in line with NEN 3140/3840 standards.
    • Checking installation quality and feeding practical improvements back to development teams.
    • Preparing technical reports, including deviations and inspection findings.
    • Supervising technicians and supporting less experienced colleagues.
    • Participating in on-call and standby rotations.

    What you bring
You're an experienced electrical specialist who takes ownership, enjoys solving problems on-site, and puts safety first.

    • An HBO degree in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Automation.
    • At least 10 years of relevant commissioning or electrical project experience, ideally involving energy storage or high-voltage systems.
    • Experience supervising and guiding technical colleagues.
    • Experience with PLC systems, such as Siemens, and embedded software.
    • Knowledge of low- and high-voltage installations.
    • IV and/or WV authorization.
    • A valid VCA VOL certificate; BHV certification is a plus.
    • Fluency in English with Dutch conversational communication skills.

You must already live in the Netherlands, given the site travel and on-call responsibilities.

    What's in it for you?
A role where your technical judgment matters, with responsibility for challenging projects that directly support the energy transition.

    • Competitive salary and employment conditions under the Metalektro CLA.
    • 27 vacation days plus 13 ADV days annually, with the option to have 10 ADV days paid out.
    • Company van, phone, and laptop.
    • PME pension, with the employer covering the majority of the premium.
    • Unlimited access to an online learning platform.
    • Opportunities to participate in sports activities and events.
    • Travel allowance of €0.25 per kilometre, up to 50 km one way.

    The team
You'll join a team delivering battery storage solutions for grid operators, industrial customers, and energy companies. Projects span the Netherlands and Europe, with your work primarily based at Dutch project sites and occasional assignments abroad.
