    Chief Engineer

    Location: Various Project Locations (Travel Required)
    Employment Type: Full-Time
    Rotation: 21 Days On / 21 Days Off

    About the Role

    We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to oversee the maintenance, operation, and reliability of a MultiCat vessel supporting dredging operations. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and propulsion systems operate safely and efficiently while leading the engine department and supporting project success.

    Working closely with the Vessel Manager, Technical Department, and Project Management team, you will manage preventative maintenance programs, equipment repairs, fuel operations, spare parts inventory, and regulatory compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the engine department and supervise the 2nd Engineer and engine room personnel.

    • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all vessel machinery and equipment.

    • Develop and manage preventative maintenance and repair schedules.

    • Monitor and maintain mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and propulsion systems.

    • Coordinate repairs with the Technical Department and external service providers.

    • Conduct equipment inspections and prepare the vessel for drydock activities.

    • Oversee bunker operations, fuel transfers, and fuel management.

    • Maintain inventories of spare parts, lubricants, fuel, and operational supplies.

    • Process requisitions for spare parts and maintenance materials.

    • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and equipment documentation.

    • Ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

    • Conduct routine safety inspections and support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives.

    • Mentor and train engine room personnel while promoting a strong safety culture.

    • Support project operations by identifying and implementing corrective and preventative maintenance solutions.

    Qualifications

    • Unlimited DDE or Chief Engineer endorsement (minimum 3,000 HP) required.

    • Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and troubleshooting experience.

    • Previous experience supervising engineering staff aboard work vessels.

    • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and marine equipment.

    • Ability to analyze problems and make sound operational decisions.

    • Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.

    • Ability to work in remote project locations on a 21-day rotation.

    • TWIC or ability to obtain a TWIC.

    • Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.

    Physical Requirements

    Candidates should be able to:

    • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs independently.

    • Climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas.

    • Work in confined spaces and varying outdoor conditions.

    • Perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and walking for extended periods.

    • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, life vests, and other site-specific safety equipment.
