About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Captain to oversee the safe and efficient operation of a MultiCat vessel supporting dredging projects. In this role, you will lead daily vessel operations, supervise the onboard crew, and ensure the vessel remains compliant, well-maintained, and operationally ready.

Working closely with the Vessel Manager, Project Manager, and Dredge Captain, you will support dredging activities by transporting equipment and materials, assisting with anchor handling, towing operations, fuel transfers, and dredge pipe work.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the safe daily operation of the MultiCat vessel and onboard crew.

• Navigate and operate the vessel using electronic charts, radar, radios, depth sounders, and other navigational equipment.

• Perform docking and undocking operations in a variety of operating conditions.

• Maintain vessel stability during all operations, including crane and lifting activities.

• Coordinate loading and unloading of equipment, supplies, and fuel transfers.

• Supervise vessel maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure operational readiness.

• Ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations, Jones Act requirements, and company policies.

• Maintain vessel logs, bridge documentation, and required certifications.

• Coordinate vessel inspections and certifications as required.

• Conduct safety meetings, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), emergency drills, and onboard training.

• Mentor and develop crew members while promoting a strong safety culture.

• Act as the primary liaison between the vessel, project team, office personnel, and port representatives.

• Support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives and contribute to continuous operational improvement.

• Perform additional duties as required to support project operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience serving as Captain aboard a work vessel.

• Experience supporting dredging, towing, marine construction, or offshore operations is preferred.

• Strong leadership and crew management skills.

• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.

• Must be willing to travel and work away from home for 21-day rotations, including remote project locations.

• Must maintain all required licenses and certifications necessary to operate the vessel.

Physical Requirements

Candidates should be able to:

• Lift and carry up to 30 lbs independently.

• Climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas.

• Work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.

• Perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and walking for extended periods.

• Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, life vests, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and other site-specific safety gear.
